Starke County Attorney, Commissioners to Review Easement Complaints at Bass Lake

The Starke County Commissioners have received several complaints from residents at Bass Lake concerning easement encroachment by neighbors.

The recent complaint came from residents who live on Western Avenue and County Road 210 about private pier placement too close to public access piers.  Those who submitted information to the commissioners say that the private piers impede on the right to use public access to the lake for boats and other watercraft for recreational purposes.

A petition was gathered with 19 signatures on it to present to the commissioners.

Other complaints have been filed by Bass Lake residents in the last several months concerning easement and right-of-way concerns along Starke County’s popular lake.

Complaints have also been reportedly filed with the Department of Natural Resources.

The commissioners have also fielded complaints from Koontz Lake residents concerning lake access and easement issues.

Starke County Attorney Justin Schramm said he will look into the ownership of the easements and attempt to come up with answers to the concerns.
