Knox School Board Holds Public Hearing on Collective Bargaining

The Knox Community School Board held a public hearing last week in order to take testimony regarding the collective bargaining process and salaries and benefits for teachers at the school corporation.

Superintendent Dr. William Reichhart said there were no public comments.

“Teacher negotiations between the Knox Federation of Teachers and the school board officially begins on September 15,” explained Dr. Reichhart.  “We will hopefully reach a tentative agreement, and then ratify that contract before the deadline of November 15. That’s by state law.”

Dr. Reichhart added that while some school corporations chose to negotiate contracts every two years as allowed during the state’s budget adoption year, the Knox Community School Corporation chose to stay with a one year negotiation cycle, so negotiations will continue this year.  The opportunity to do a two-year contract will be available next year as the state legislature determines the state budget, and the determination will be made at that time.
