Trial Held in Starke Circuit Court

A one-day trial was held Wednesday, May 17 in Starke Circuit Court.

John Wiseman was charged with burglary as a Level 4 Felony and theft of a firearm as a Level 6 Felony.  Wiseman was suspected of entering a home on State Road 10 while the homeowner was gone on May 15, 2022 and taking a .357 Taurus revolver from the victim’s nightstand.  Wiseman had stayed at the residence for a period of time before being evicted by the victim prior to this incident. 

The firearm is still missing.

The victim testified as well as one witness and two deputies from the Starke County Sheriff’s Department. 

Wiseman did not take the stand in his own defense.

The jury returned not guilty verdicts in the case after a short deliberation. 

Starke Circuit Court Judge Kim Hall presided over the trial.  Starke County Chief Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Matthew Poulos represented the State of Indiana and Attorney Richard Ballard defended Wiseman.
