Starke County Election Board Still Looking for Vote Center Location in Koontz Lake

The Starke County Election Board continues to look for a new location in Koontz Lake to host a Vote Center for the November General Election.

Starke County Clerk Bernadette Welter Manuel stated that the Koontz Lake Association Building does not have adequate space for the required space needed as a “chute” for voters, and cars were being damaged in the parking lot on Election Day.

The board also agreed to purchase some new equipment to better mark the area of a “chute”, or line for voters at the polling sites in the county.

The clerk also stated that the Republican Party and Democratic Party Chairs have until Monday, July 3 to fill vacant slots on the General Election ballot.  Additionally, candidates have until August 1 to file a Declaration of Candidacy for the Town of Hamlet and Town of North Judson Conventions.  A Town Convention is held for towns with a population of less than 3,500.  If there is more than one candidate that files for a particular seat, a single candidate will be determined in a Town Convention and that candidate will be included on the General Election ballot.
