The Starke County Historical Society recently received a Heritage Support Grant in the amount of $17,500 to go toward an ongoing restoration project at the historic Schricker House in Knox.
The announcement was made by Historical Society board members during the annual ice cream social Sunday, July 9.
In addition to the Heritage Fund Grant, the Historical Society also received a $15,000 grant from the Starke County Community Foundation’s Hardesty Memorial Endowment Fund.
Located on Main Street in Knox, the residence that former Indiana Governor Henry F. Schricker and his wife Maude Brown Schricker called home is listed on the Indiana State Register of Historic Places. There are plans to restore the home to the way it was when the Schricker family resided there. With help from a few of the Schricker daughters, some of the original furniture from the home will occupy the residence once again.
