A person was arrested in a burglary investigation in the City of Knox.
A Knox City Police Department officer was notified of a possible burglary at the Knox Chevrolet Dealership on South Heaton Street around 7:40 a.m. CT Thursday, July 20. The owner met with police where a glass door in the back was reportedly broken with a cinder block.
Police say a customer on a moped arrived at the car dealership the previous day wanting to purchase a red 2021 Cadillac CT4 parked in the lot. The owner stated that he was not comfortable with the purchase as conversations continued with the man and he was not making sense. The man allegedly said he had $20,000 in cash but would need to take out a loan to complete the sale. The transaction did not occur.
The man left the business without any issues.
Upon further investigation Thursday morning, the same 2021 Cadillac was found missing from the parking lot and a moped was left in same spot where the Cadillac was once parked, according to the report. The owner confirmed the keys were missing from the office.
The officer looked up the moped registration which came back to Adam Davidson of Knox. The dealership owner reportedly identified Davidson as the person who was in the dealership the previous day.
The Knox City Police Department worked with the Starke County Sheriff’s Department to assist in retrieving the stolen Cadillac.
Upon arrival at the address, police found the Cadillac in the driveway, according to the report. Officers secured a perimeter and officers approached the door of the residence. A man opened the front door who was identified as Davidson. He was asked multiple times to come out of the residence, but he allegedly did not comply. Police say K9 O’Neill was deployed into the residence after Davidson continued to back up in the residence and his hand went to his back pocket. Davidson struck K9 O’Neill several times top of his head before police were able to take Davidson into custody, according to the report. After he was placed into handcuffs, Davidson was taken to a squad car without further incident.
Police say medics tended to Davidson, but he refused further treatment at Northwest Health Starke. He was then interviewed by police and booked into the Starke County Justice Center.
Davidson is facing felony charges of burglary and auto theft, along with a misdemeanor charge of criminal mischief.
Suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
