High speed broadband internet service will soon be available to the residents and business owners in Knox.
Gene Crusie from Surf Internet spoke on the WKVI Morning Show about the service and mentioned that internet speed is a big benefit with broadband.
“One thing about fiber optic is it’s symmetrical so the upload speed and the download speed is the same,” said Crusie. “When you’re on a video conference or doing some kind of phone connection over the internet there’s no worry about latency or delay. If you’re watching a video on Netflix – that jitter, there’s no more of that with fiber.”
Crusie has worked on several projects in the two-county area with many projects in Marshall County, including a recent project completion in Culver.
As previously reported, Surf is investing nearly $2 million of its own capital to bring fiber to 1,200 addresses this year, with further expansion to serve over 1,600 homes in 2024. Because of the rural nature of Starke County, Surf is leveraging grant funding to connect the fiber network to 20 rural addresses funded through the Indiana Connectivity Program, an initiative of the Indiana Office of Community & Rural Affairs.
Surf was awarded $79,500 in the Indiana Connectivity Program’s 6th round of funding. Surf CEO Gene Cruise stated Surf is the first company to step up and deploy fiber-optic broadband to Knox.
Construction began at the end of July.
Knox Mayor Dennis Estok is proud to be able to have this partnership to provide this high speed, affordable internet service to residents.
