A North Judson man was arrested Thursday, August 31 after the Starke County Sheriff’s Department was notified of a firearm discharged inside of a residence.
Police were called to the residence in the 6700 South block of 250 West in North Judson around 10:13 p.m. CT. Police say all of the occupants inside were able to safely evacuate from the home. Officers learned that the suspect, identified as 60-year-old Jeffry Pera of North Judson, fired the gun in the basement of the home, according to the report.
After a brief period of time, Pera exited the residence and was taken into custody.
As a result of the investigation, deputies learned that Pera had been in an alleged altercation with an adult male who also resides in the residence. During the alleged altercation, police say it was reported that Pera pointed a handgun at the male. According to witnesses, Pera then reportedly fired a single shot from the handgun inside the home.
Pera was transported to the Starke County Jail and held on preliminary felony charges of criminal recklessness and intimidation. Formal charges will be determined by Starke County Prosecutor’s Office.
The case remains under investigation.

Suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
