The Starke County Election Board members conducted a public test of voting machines Wednesday afternoon.
The public test is open to any member of the public, but there were no community members present other than those involved with the election. The election board members go through a test voting process to ensure that each candidate gets a vote in each precinct on those machines to verify the machines are programmed and working properly prior to Election Day. It was verified that the machines tested worked properly along with the Voter Verified Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) on one machine. Each machine was then zeroed out and locked for Election Day.
Sample absentee ballots provided by Microvote were also tested with no issues.
Additionally, it was noted that around 25 absentee ballots have been returned to the Clerk’s Office out of the 40 that were recently mailed to voters who submitted an application for a ballot for the upcoming election.
The last day to register to vote is Tuesday, October 10.
Visit www.IndianaVoters.com and quickly access a link to register to vote or check a voter registration record. The state’s website also provides voters with local polling locations and who’s on their ballot.
To register, Indiana residents must be at least 18 years old on or before the upcoming election, have a valid Indiana Driver’s License or Indiana State Identification Card, be a citizen of the United States, have lived in the same precinct for at least 30 days before the next election, and not currently imprisoned after being convicted of a crime.
