Pulaski County Election Board to Implement Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail for Early Voting

Voting machines in Indiana will have to be able to give voters a printout of their choices by the end of 2029, but some Pulaski County voters will get to try it out during this year’s elections. The state has given the county 20 of the “voter verifiable paper audit trail” printers. That isn’t enough to equip all of the machines on Election Day, but Clerk JoLynn Behny says the election board has decided to roll them out for early voting.

Starke County Election Board to Finalize Early Voting Hours, Location

Early voting hours for North Judson’s town election are expected to be finalized during a special Starke County Election Board meeting this morning. Since North Judson is the only place in Starke County holding an election this fall, board members have decided to set up a satellite absentee voting location there. But they still need to pick a location and set the specific hours.

Pulaski County Election Board Considering Funding for Future Voting Machine Upgrades

The Pulaski County Election Board is planning to start budgeting for voting machine upgrades. State lawmakers are considering a bill that would require voting machines to have a “voter verifiable paper audit trail” by the end of 2029. Adding the necessary printers to Pulaski County’s machines is estimated to cost $45,000.

Proposed Senate Bill May Force Replacement of Starke County’s Voting Machines

Plans to upgrade Starke County’s voting machines may be put on hold, pending the outcome of a bill in the Indiana Senate. Senate Bill 570 proposes a number of new requirements related to election cyber security. Notably, any electronic voting systems would have to have a “voter verifiable paper audit trail,”starting in 2022.
