Firefighters battled a house fire in the 400 block of West Pacific Avenue in Knox Monday, March 11 around 8:30 p.m. CT.

Knox-Center Township Fire Department Fire Chief Kenny Pfost said when they arrived at the scene, firefighters saw heavy smoke, and flames were coming from the west side of the home. One occupant was in the home, but got out of the home with no injuries.

Pfost said strong winds played a factor in battling the blaze, but the fire was successfully extinguished and no injuries were reported.

The home sustained extensive heat, smoke and water damage.

The cause and origin of the fire will be determined in an investigation by the Indiana State Fire Marshal’s office.

The Knox-Center Township Fire Department was assisted at the scene by the Hamlet-Davis Township Fire Department, North Judson-Wayne Township Fire Department, Washington Township Fire Department, Starke County EMS, Knox City Police Department, and the Starke County Sheriff’s Office.
