The Starke County Election Board held a public test of voting machines Monday afternoon at the Starke County Courthouse.
The board members conduct the public tests to ensure election equipment is properly programmed and functioning ahead of the election.
A percentage of voting machines from the county’s inventory is tested during the public test. The voting machines to be tested are chosen by VSTOP (Voting System Technical Oversight Program) officials and are randomly selected. Three voting machines were randomly selected for testing Monday afternoon.
The machines were tested to ensure that each candidate received at least one vote on the ballot styles. The board members verified that each candidate did receive at least one vote each so all was done correctly.
The public was welcome to view the process and a few members of the public were able to help the board members conduct the test.
When the test was complete, the machines were reset to zero and were locked and stored. They will be ready for early voting that begins April 9.
The public test in Pulaski County is set for Wednesday, April 3 at 10 a.m. ET at the Pulaski County Highway Garage at 1131 N. U.S. 35 in Winamac.
