The Starke County Youth Club has many programs to offer its 300 students throughout the year.
Executive Director Irene Szakonyi pointed to an art program that is well attended at Club.
“Throughout the course of the year, our kids will learn about famous artists and artistic techniques, they will sculpt, they will paint, they will do fabric design, they did wire wrapping and print making – all of these incredible experiences,” said Szakonyi.
An opportunity to showcase that talent is coming up in May.
“We actually have an art show coming up May 18 where their student artwork will be on display at the [Nancy J. Dembowski] Community Center here in Knox. It really runs the gamut in terms of art modalities. There’s art of all different kinds that will be on display. I’m just so proud because sometimes kids will say, ‘I’m not an artist because I don’t know how to draw’. What we love to see is that they decide they can be an artist in all of these different ways.”
A free community performance will take place at 1 p.m. May 18.
