There are many after school and enrichment activities that take place for kids involved in the Starke County Youth Club.
Executive Director Irene Szakonyi has talked about cooking classes and art opportunities. There is also a time for those who can take learning to the next level.
“Our kids are learning about Math and Science and literacy, but it is a little different from school,” said Szakonyi. “It’s not like maybe being in a classroom for school. It really is interactive, out of their seats, engaging activity and one of kids’ favorites is our Science Center. Kids are learning about everything from Earth Science like how does a plant grow, to learning about ‘how do I program this little robot to do what I want it to do?’ So they get all of these experiences at Club as part of their daily activities when they might not have those experiences otherwise.”
The Starke County Youth Club Radiothon is set for this Friday, May 3 live on WKVI where Szakonyi said listeners will be treated to a variety of information.
“If you want to hear some funny stories from kids, if you want to hear about why Club is important – I think it’s always better to hear the kids tell it than me. I love to talk about Club, but we’ll have interviews with our kids that we’ll play all day long. We’ll also have special guests, folks in the community who love the programs, who love our kids, family members will come and talk about it. Most importantly we’ll raise money to make sure that the programs can stay strong and vibrant and high quality for kids in years to come,” said Szakonyi.
The Radiothon is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. CT Friday, May 3. Call in a pledge to keep programs and activities going for this youth organization by calling 574-772-6241 Friday during the Radiothon.
