Pulaski County Clerk JoLynn Behny and Republican poll worker Judy Heater reported suspicious activity at the Pulaski County Highway Garage as they prepared to set up for early voting Saturday, May 4.
Behny and Heater saw that both sets of entry doors to the lobby area of the garage had been apparently forced open with the deadbolt locks resting on the outside of the doors, according to the report.
They contacted law enforcement and officers from the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office and the Winamac Police Department arrived at the scene to secure the facility and the election equipment.
According to a press release, the security seals on the MicroVote voting machines and the Voter Verified Paper Audit Trail printer were all intact and the vote counts on the machines matched what had been recorded the previous day which shows the election equipment remained secure with no tampering.
Behny informed the Pulaski County Election Board, the Pulaski County Commissioners and the Indiana Election Division about the incident.
Early voting did go on as scheduled at the Pulaski County Highway Garage.
At this time, law enforcement officials believe that the building was simply not properly secured.
