The Starke County Election Board members reviewed one provisional ballot when they met last week.
Clerk Bernadette Manuel told WKVI News that an envelope containing an absentee ballot was not signed so it was deemed a provisional ballot. A cure letter was sent to the voter for signature and it was returned by the deadline date and time of Friday, May 17 at noon CT. Manuel said the board compared the signature with the ballot application and with the signature presented in the Statewide Voter Registration System (SVRS) and it matched. Based upon that, the board agreed to count the provisional ballot.
The votes on the provisional ballot did not change the outcome of any races in the overall election.
The board then certified the election. A report has to be filed with the state with several statistical items about the election which has been submitted.
The board also agreed with resolutions to allow 16- and 17-year-olds to be poll workers in the November General Election. There were seven 16- and 17-year-old poll workers during the May 7 election in Starke County.
The Travel Board members will also be allowed to travel to contiguous counties to obtain applications and ballots from voters in nursing homes and who are otherwise homebound.
