Crews Continue Clean-up after Monday Night Storms

Starke County Highway Department crews continue their efforts in cleaning up debris on roads from storms Monday night, along with the county’s firefighters, Starke County EMS personnel, Starke County EMA, NIPSCO and REMC workers.

Starke County Highway Superintendent Rachel Oesterreich said crews have been out since late Monday night to help clear trees and limbs from roads to mitigate hazardous travel. The department received about 100 calls of road hazards. Oesterreich said workers are doing their best to get as much work done as they can get to it.

There are several roads that are closed as they continue to contain road hazards. Those roads include:

550 E. south of State Road 8

375 W. near State Road 39

4580 S. 260 W.

250 W. between Toto Road and 400 S.

0145 E. 500 S.

Elm Street

350 W. and 500 S.

100 W. south of Toto Road

The following roads remain closed due to high water or other maintenance:

1200 E. between 550 N. and 600 N.

150 S. west of 300 W.

900 E. between State Road 10 and 625 S.

500 S. between Range Road and 50 S.

Many residents and business owners have reported damage from high winds that ripped through the Kankakee Valley late Monday night and early Tuesday morning. Power is still being restored to some areas as well.till being restored to some areas as well.
