As the new school year approaches, the Knox Community School Board members took action during their latest meeting to update policies
Superintendent Greg Mikulich said the school corporation had a cell phone policy that was updated last year, but each school board had to have a policy approved for each district this year as directed by the state.
Mikulich stated, “Basically, we have four consequences for those ranging from taking the phone away and giving it back to the kid at the end of the day, going down to more of a Level Four when that we take it and there is detention and some social probation that also accompanies that. Our expectation with the cell phone is that when students walk in the building they put it away and at the end of the day, after the bell rings, they get it out because they may need to know where they’re going after school. They can turn it on then.”
The cell phone policy will be included in the handbooks which will be discussed with students at the beginning of the school year.
