Starke County Highway Superintendent Provides Road Update

Most of the roads closed this week due to road hazards have reopened, according to Starke County Highway Department Superintendent Rachel Oesterreich.

She said her department received 118 tree calls from the storm that hit the area Monday, July 15 and continued into the early morning hours Tuesday, July 16. While crews have cleared any trees blocking roadways, she noted that it will take several months to take care of the rest of the brush from the storms as the highway department turns to paving projects next week.

The roads currently closed are 1200 E. between 550 N. and 650 N. due to flooding and unstable conditions of the roadway, 500 S. between Range Road and 50 E. due to flooding and unstable conditions of the roadway, 900 E. between State Road 10 and 625 S. due to flooding, and Elm Street due to downed power lines.
