Driver Arrested for Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated

Corey Howard

A Knox City Police Department officer arrested a suspect for operating a vehicle while intoxicated Sunday, August 4 just before 9 p.m. CT in the area of State Road 8 and 200 E. in Knox.

The officer stated in the report that he observed a vehicle traveling west on State Road 8 unable to maintain the lane of travel. A traffic stop was initiated where the officer identified the driver as 27-year-old Corey Howard.

The officer noted the smell of the consumption of alcohol from the vehicle, according to the report. That same report indicated that Howard told the officer that he was attempting to focus on his GPS and did not realize he was all over the roadway. He allegedly admitted to consuming “a few” alcoholic beverages.

Another officer arrived at the scene and conducted field sobriety testing. A portable breath test reportedly showed Howard to be over the legal limit. He was transported to the hospital for medical clearance and then Howard was transported to the Starke County Justice Center where he was booked on preliminary charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, and operating a vehicle with an ACE of .15 or more.

Formal charges will be determined by the Starke County Prosecutor’s Office.

Suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
