Knox Community School Board Creates Police Department

The Knox Community School Board members signed a resolution last week to create a corporation police department, according to Superintendent Greg Mikulich.

“School safety in this day and age is very important,” said Mikulich. “Currently, we have our assistant principal who is our safety director and it is very difficult for them to do both of those jobs at the same time. School safety is one of those things that we don’t want to take lightly. We want one person in charge of our schools and our school safety.”

Mikulich said officials are in the process of hiring a chief of police for the police department. He noted there are a few other steps that need to take place before the police department is officially functioning, but it should be soon.

The Knox Community School Corporation is not the only area school to have its own police department. The Oregon-Davis School Corporation and the Culver Community School Corporation that have their own police departments in place with staff to focus on student safety.
