
A Knox mas was arrested Thursday, January 30 just before 11 p.m. CT after deputies with the Starke County Sheriff’s Office arrived at a residence near the 3000 block of U.S. 35 for a warrant check.
The suspect, 64-year-old Clyde Malecki, of Knox, had a felony warrant through Pulaski County. Deputies approached the residence attempting to make contact at the front door.
Deputies were greeted by Malecki at the front door. Police say Malecki instantly attempted to shut the door as they announced their presence while advising Malecki of his felony warrant. Malecki remained in the doorway, refusing to exit the residence, while forcibly pulling away, according to the report. Malecki was escorted outside. Malecki made furtive movements near the rear, right side of his body and reportedly began to blade himself. Deputies engaged Malecki, placing him into handcuffs. Police say a firearm was removed out of the back, right side of Malecki’s pants pocket, where Malecki was previously reaching. Malecki had previous violent conviction(s) involving firearms.
Upon further investigation, a search warrant was obtained for the residence. Officers located approximately 35.76 grams of suspected methamphetamine, 3.61 grams of suspected heroin/fentanyl, additional illicit narcotics, narcotic packaging equipment and miscellaneous narcotic paraphernalia equipment, according to the report.
Clyde Malecki was taken to the Starke County Justice Center and booked on preliminary felony charges of dealing in methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine, dealing a narcotic drug, possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon, possession of a narcotic drug, possession of a syringe, possession of a Schedule 1 controlled substance, and possession of a Schedule 4 controlled Substance; along with misdemeanor charges of resisting law enforcement, possession of marijuana, and possession of paraphernalia.
Formal charges will be determined by the Starke County Prosecutor’s Office.
Suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
