Extremely cold temperatures will settle into the area early this week bringing dangerous wind chills.
Lows on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday morning will be around -25 wind chills. Little relief is expected during daytime hours, as it is unlikely it will not get any warmer than -10 on Monday or -15 on Tuesday/Wednesday.
Take preventive measures, such as allowing faucets to drip, insulating pipes, and dressing as warm as possible. Check on vulnerable neighbors, friends, and family. At these wind chills, frostbite occurs rapidly.
Road salt becomes less effective as the temperatures go below 20 degrees.
Space heaters should be used with caution. If using a space heater, place it on a hard, level surface and keep anything flammable at least three away, such as bedding, drapes, curtains or rugs.
Never use a stove or oven as a source of heat in your home; ovens are designed to heat food and should only be operated with the door closed.
