Starke County Council Reorganizes, Makes Appointments

The Starke County Council members reorganized for the new year as they met for the first time this year Tuesday, January 21.

Councilwoman Kay Gudeman made a motion to elect Todd Leinbach as council president which was seconded by Councilwoman Cassandra Hine. The motion passed with a unanimous vote. Hine made a motion to elect Bruce Bennett as vice president which was seconded by Kay Gudeman. The motion passed with a unanimous vote.

The following appointments were passed by unanimous votes: Council members Bruce Bennett and Kay Gudeman to the Starke County Economic Development Foundation Board, Councilman Bruce Bennett to the SCILL Board, Councilman Bill Crase to the K-IRPC Board, Councilman Howard Bailey to the Starke County Plan Commission, Joanne Bailey to the Starke County Library Board, Ken Peverelle to the Alcohol Beverage Board, Councilman Todd Leinbach to the Starke County Solid Waste Board, and Councilman Dave Pearman to the Marshall-Starke Development Board.

The council tabled an appointment to the Starke County Park Board to review the potential candidates. The council is still looking for a realtor to sit on the P.T.A.B.O.A. Board.

In other business, it was decided that County Attorney Justin Schramm will draft a detailed code of conduct and procedure for the council members to follow.
