William Coad Pleads Guilty in Plea Agreement in Starke Circuit Court

William Coad, 39, of Monterey, pleaded guilty in a plea agreement with the State to a charge of strangulation as a Level 6 Felony during a hearing in Starke Circuit Court Friday, February 21.

He admitted to the charge in an incident that occurred August 29, 2024 in Starke County.

Starke County Prosecuting Attorney Leslie Baker asked Magistrate Micah Cox to accept the plea agreement negotiated with the defendant and Defense Attorney Richard Ballard. Coad has participated in pre-trial release supervision and has had no issues while on this level of supervision and is a low risk to re-offend.

Magistrate Cox accepted the plea agreement which calls for 18 months in the Indiana Department of Correction with all of the sentence to be suspended and served on Starke County Community Corrections home detention monitoring. A no-contact order will remain in place throughout the duration of the sentence. He will need to pay a domestic violence fee of $50. Upon the acceptance of the plea agreement, other charges of intimidation and domestic battery were dismissed. He was given 173 days of good time credit.
