The Winamac Town Council approved a bid for the town’s Community Crossings Matching Grant projects.
The council approved a bid of $555,677.18 to Central Paving and the work will be done sometime by the fall.
Proposed paving projects include Pearl from Logan Street and Franklin Street, 13th Street between Falvey and Agnew, Main Street between Riverside and Franklin, Market Street between Spring and Jefferson, Logan between Madison and Jefferson, Burson between Erie and Huron, Madison between Market and Northwest, Keller between State Road 14 and the dead end, Riverside between U.S. 35 and Main Street, Decker between State Road 14 and Decker, 16th between Monticello and Market, and 16th between Hathaway and Falvey.
Town Manager Brad Zellers said the project came in well under budget and the town will look to submit other smaller projects for funding help in the second call for projects this summer.
Additionally, the council approved the purchase of a compressor to fill air bottles for the firefighters. The current compressor does not keep up with standards of the air bottles and it is a matter of safety. The cost of $52,500 was approved with McQueen. All council members voted in favor with Larry Weaver abstaining from the vote.
The council members also unanimously approved a bid from Dixon to conduct required water tower maintenance and painting at a cost of $205,950 plus $44,000 for engineering. The project was budgeted for this year as it is needed every few years.
The members also chose their top three favorite drawings done by students in the Main Street Winamac banner art contest. The winning students will have their art hanging on banners down U.S. 35 for all to see as they travel through town. A ceremony is tentatively planned for June 6 at 5 p.m. ET in the parking lot across from the Isis Theater, but watch the Main Street Winamac Facebook page for any changes. The Winamac Town Council is picking up the cost of the banners to showcase the talents of area students.
