Koontz Lake Reports Same Level of Toxins as July 21

The Koontz Lake Conservancy District has announced that the sampling done by Aquatic Control on Tuesday, August 5th shows essentially the same level of toxins as the July 21st sample. They urge citizens to continue to use the precautions that they outlined in their most recent newsletter, including:

  • Keeping dogs out of the lake since they have a tendency to drink lake water.
  • Being cautious with small children who may also swallow lake water while playing in the lake.
  • Washing with warm soapy water after being in the lake.

The next sampling event at Koontz Lake will be on August 18th, and the Koontz Lake Conservancy District has said they will communicate results as soon as they are available.

They also noted that their board has met with Aquatic Control’s experts on the Blue-Green Algae that causes these toxins, and Aquatic Control has proposed a plan for treatments next spring that may help prevent this situation from happening again next season; more details on that will also be shared as they are made available.
