With dry conditions still posing a fire risk, La Porte County officials have decided to keep the county’s outdoor burn ban in place for now, and expand its area.
The county commissioners voted on October 15 to extend the ban, which was first issued October 1st. Commissioners also added Lincoln Township to the list of affected areas.
The burn ban now covers jurisdictions served by the Cass-Clinton Wanatah, LaCrosse, Hanna, Noble, Westville, and Lincoln Township Fire Departments. Commissioners plan to revisit the discussion at their next meeting, to take place on November 5.
This ban prohibits all open-air burning, including burn barrels, campfires, and brush pile fires. However, residents are still allowed to use gas and charcoal grills for cooking, as long as they’re attended and used safely.
Commercial fire pits may be permitted for recreational use only with approval from the fire chief. Residents are strongly encouraged to contact their fire department before using one.
