According to a press release from NIPSCO, Northern Indiana Public Service Company; residents in Indiana can expect higher heating bills this winter compared to last year.
According to the forecast by the utility company, bills for the upcoming heating season, which is considered to be from November through March, are expected to rise about 16% from last winter, assuming normal weather conditions.
Last year, the average residential customer could pay approximately $575 over the five-month heating period, compared to the projection of $665 this year, which would be an increase of about $90 total or $18 per month.
According to the release, NIPSCO states that the changes are largely due to fluctuations in gas market prices; noting that the cost of the gas itself is passed directly to customers without markup and must be reviewed and approved by the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission, or IURC.
