STARKE COUNTY – After this weekend’s snow storm throughout the region, Oregon-Davis schools have shared reminders to parents and students when it comes to winter weather and bus safety.
Oregon-Davis would like to remind students and parents about bus safety in the colder weather. They remind parents to make sure their students are dressed for low temperatures, and ready at least 5 minutes before pick up time.
Students should stay back at least 15 feet from the bus stop, and not approach the bus until it is completely stopped. As the ground can be slippery this time of year, students are reminded not to run to the bus, and to use the handrails when getting on the bus, as the steps could also be slippery.
The post states that safety is the number one priority of the school.
An additional reminder that in Indiana, all vehicles on both sides of the roadway must stop when a school bus has its red lights flashing and stop-arm extended; unless on a divided highway that has a physical barrier separating traffic.
