The City of Knox Board of Works held a meeting on Wednesday evening, April 22nd.
Reports and updates were provided from several city departments during the meeting.
The Public Works department shared information about an upcoming painting and paving project in the city, as well as reporting that the city’s salt supply is fully stocked for next year. Updates were also shared in regards to ongoing maintence that has been completed, such as pothole patching, mowing, and street sweeping.
The Wastewater and Utilities department shared information about major upgrades at the Washington Station, including new pumps, control panel, and conduit. Updates were shared on sewer repairs that have been completed such as the repair of a root intrusion, a new tap installation, and inspecting lines. Inspections were also completed for some new homes, as well as ongoing mowing and maintenance.
The Water Department shared that it has completed spring hydrant flushing, and also turned on water at the park and installed necessary equipment. The water department shared plans to purchase an industrial dehumidifier due to daily condensation issues it is having.
The Police Department shared its activity report, including 624 total calls, 70 traffic stops, and 24 citations issued since the last report. Various incidents were reported, including domestic calls, drug activity, and suspicious vehicles among others.
Board members discussed a property case on New York street, and passed a motion to reduce the property owner’s $25,000 fine down to $1,000 with a 1-year probationary period. If the property remains in compliance for the year, the remaining $25,000 fine will be dismissed.
There was a public hearing in regards to a property on Main Street that is having window and roofing issues. The board decided that the owner must fix the roof within 30 days.
Board members also discussed a property case on Bender Street that is in severely deteriorated condition, likely beyond repair. The homeowner offered to give the property to the city, though there were concerns regarding the cost of demolition, liability to the city, and the fact that there is no current funding such as blight elimination grants to help repair the property.
This issue was tabled until the next meeting and in the meantime, the city will get cost esitmates for demolition and decide whether to take ownership.
The meeting was streamed live on Youtube and can be found on the City of Knox account.
