After planning the event since last year, the North Judson Fire Department performed its “Smoke Alarm Blitz” on Saturday.
The Fire Department, along with volunteers from Starke County EMS, the American Red Cross, and NISEA, performed a smoke alarm blitz across the town of North Judson. The event started at 10am, with volunteers going door-to-door to install smoke alarms for homeowners at no cost. The event concluded around lunchtime.
The smoke alarm blitz was designed to improve fire safety within the community, and the alarms were provided without sign-up or registration.
An update on the announcement shares that the teams installed 150 alarms total in over 50 homes, and provided even more to homeowners for self-installation. While they were able to visit many homes, time constraints prevented them from visiting everybody. If a North Judson resident is still in need of a smoke alarm, the American Red Cross is offering free installations at 888-684-1441.
