The Starke County Highway Superintendent has shared that Starke County will receive a major boost for its local roads and bridges, with over $2.7 million in new state and federal funding being awarded recently.
The Indiana Department of Transportation recently awarded Starke County just over $2 million in federal funding, to go towards a bridge project over Robbins Ditch on County Road 600 East. Most of that money, or about $1.7 million, will go towards construction, with additional funds to be set aside for engineering the project.
In a separate award, Starke County has also been selected to receive more than $750,000 through the Community Crossings Matching Grant Program. The state-funded program helps cover up to 80% of costs for local bridge and road improvements.
INDOT officials say they will continue working with local representatives in moving these projects forward.
