Starke County Board of Commissioners adopt multiple ordinances

At Monday evening’s Starke County Commissioner’s meeting, Commissioners voted on the adoption of multiple ordinances.

Commissioners adopted Ordinance numbers 2026-16 and 2026-17, in regards to Solar Energy Systems and Battery Energy Storage Systems.

Each of those two ordinances establishes a set of comprehensive regulations for solar projects, including for permitting, design, construction, operation, and more for both Solar Energy Systems and Battery Energy Storage Systems. Both of these ordinances will go into effect July 25th of this year.

Commissioners also voted on the adoption of Ordinance number 2026-15, which establishes a temporary moratorium on applications for carbon capture and sequestration facilities (CCS facilities) and associated pipelines within the county. This 12-month temporary moratorium is meant to allow the County time to study and draft appropriate zoning regulations, and was effective immediately upon its adoption.

Ordinance number 2026-14 was also adopted by County Commissioners this week, establishing procedures for residential permit review, plan examination, and inspections across the county. This ordinance was also effective immediately upon its adoption.

A full copy of each of these ordinances is available for public inspection at both the Starke County Planning and Building Department and the Starke County Auditor’s Office.
