The Starke County Plan Commission held a regular meeting this Wednesday, June 10th.
During the meeting, a discussion was held on proposed changes related to livestock ordinances; and how those changes might interact with already-existing zoning classifications.
During a presentation, Plan Commission learned there are different areas that would be effected by the livestock ordinance, where the zoning classifications may be outdated or doesn’t match the current land usage.
Areas that were discussed that could be affected by any proposed changes include English Lake, Bass Lake, San Pierre, Toto.
Ultimately, a motion was made and passed to table the resolution until the zoning anomalies can be reviewed and re-zoning can be considered.
Another resolution that was tabled at this meeting was Resolution 2026-BCA, or the fencing ordinance.
This ordinance had previously gone to the County Commissioners for approval but was sent back to Plan Commission with the note that Commissioners did not want the ordinance to control what fencing materials are approved; but rather focus on prohibited materials instead.
After multiple revisions including eliminating the section listing approved fencing materials, and removing sheet metal, corrugated metal, and roofing materials from prohibited materials, it was ultimately decided that more research is needed and the Resolution was tabled.
