PLYMOUTH, Ind. — For one day each summer, downtown Plymouth transforms into a vibrant celebration of creativity where artists fill the streets, musicians take the stage, families create together, and thousands of visitors experience the power of the arts to bring a community to life.
On Saturday, July 25, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., the 12th Annual ARTS in the Street Festival returns to downtown Plymouth, bringing together more than 70 artists and makers, live entertainment, interactive arts experiences, local food vendors, and family-friendly activities across three blocks of Michigan Street. Presented by Heartland Art Center, the free festival has grown into one of northern Indiana’s premier one-day arts celebrations while serving as an important showcase for the region’s growing creative economy.
“ARTS in the Street is more than an art festival; it’s a celebration of the people whose creativity makes our communities stronger,” said Anna Kietzman, President of Heartland Art Center. “Every artist, performer, musician, food vendor, volunteer, and community partner helps create an experience that connects people, supports small creative businesses, and demonstrates how the arts contribute to a vibrant, thriving downtown.”
Visitors will discover more than 70 independent artists and makers from throughout Indiana and the surrounding region, each representing a small creative business built through passion, craftsmanship, and entrepreneurship. From original paintings and ceramics to jewelry, woodworking, glass, fiber art, photography, sculpture, and mixed media, every purchase directly supports the creative economy and helps artists continue doing what they love. Guests will have the opportunity to meet the artists behind the work, hear the stories behind each piece, and invest in one-of-a-kind artwork while supporting local and regional creative entrepreneurs.
Live entertainment keeps the festival energized throughout the day with performances by Rockwood from LaPorte, Alex Hutchek of Fort Wayne, and Latin band Los Electros, also from Fort Wayne, on the Main Stage. Festivalgoers can also enjoy acoustic performances by Claire Hoekstra and Rayna Dickson, along with performances by Expressions Dance Studio, Core Dance Centre, and The Dolls, showcasing the remarkable talent found throughout northern Indiana.
Beyond the artist marketplace, ARTS in the Street offers dozens of opportunities for visitors to create, play, and explore. Families can take part in the festival scavenger hunt, help paint a large community mural, leave their mark in the Graffiti Zone, create sand art, experience traditional weaving and spinning demonstrations, enjoy face painting, balloon art, and interact with beloved street entertainers including Copper the Living Statue, magician Norman Basile, and chalk artist John Buggs. Artists of every age are invited to participate in the annual Chalk Art Contest for a chance to win prizes.
Food is an experience all its own during ARTS in the Street. Eleven food vendors and a beer and wine garden will offer something for every appetite, from barbecue, brisket, pulled chicken, Philly cheesesteaks, tacos, burritos, and loaded potatoes to gourmet grilled cheese, soups, Italian ice, coffee, baked goods, fresh juices, lemon shake-ups, dirty sodas, and more.
This year’s festival also celebrates America’s upcoming 250th anniversary through America the Beautiful, a community art exhibition on display at Heartland’s Historic Fire Station Gallery. Visitors can explore the exhibit and complete a special America 250 scavenger hunt to receive a commemorative America 250 button while supplies last.
Visitors interested in becoming part of Heartland Art Center’s growing creative community can also take advantage of a membership opportunity available only during the festival. Anyone who joins Heartland during ARTS in the Street will receive an additional six months of membership at no additional cost, making this the best time of the year to become involved with the organization and support local creatives.
“Creative entrepreneurs are small business owners,” Kietzman said. “When people choose to shop with an artist, attend a performance, or invest in locally made work, they’re investing in their neighbors, their downtown, and the future of our community.
