The North Judson – Wayne Township Volunteer Fire Department is encouraging those who have ever thought about volunteering to step up.
In a recent post, the Department shared information from numerous calls for assistance department members responded to earlier this month.
The post shares that on Saturday, August 1st, the department responded to a call for a gas line that had been struck and ignited, nearly catching a home on fire.
On August 2nd, the department assisted the Knox-Center Township Fire Department on a call for a commercial structure fire.
During that call, the North Judson Wayne Township Fire Department shares that its Engine 16-1 responded to the call, and that its engine company assisted with locating and extinguishing a fire in the attic space, along with salvage and overhaul. The post shares that while North Judson was responding to that call for around 2 hours, the San Pierre Volunteer Fire Department went on standby to help make sure their coverage area was still attended to.
The post goes on to share that on August 8th, the department responded to an attic fire in town; stating that prior to the department’s arrival the fire was contained by a helpful neighbor. North Judson Volunteer Fire Department Members were able to make entry into the attic, clear the materials involved in the fire, and provide ventilation to the space.
The post ends with the note that North Judson’s Mutual Aid Box Alarm System, or MABAS, gets activated whenever there is a possible or confirmed structure fire, meaning the department receives automatic aid from Knox Fire Department, San Pierre Fire Department, and Starke County EMS on the initial response; stating that the system has been an asset to the county as volunteer fire departments struggle to fill rosters, especially during daytime weekday calls.
