The Starke County Commissioners announced they have adopted an ordinance that updates contractor registration requirements across the county.
The Commissioners adopted Ordinance 2026-26 during their August 18th meeting, amending Sections 4 and 5 of the county’s 2006 contractor registration ordinance.
The changes to the ordinance update the wording when it comes to those responsible for payment; clarify minimum insurance requirements; and establish an anniversary-based annual renewal process for contractor registrations.
Under the ordinance, applicants are required to provide proof of $1 million in public liability and property damage insurance, workers’ compensation coverage and a $5,000 bond payable to Starke County and all towns, cities and municipalities within the county.
The ordinance also changes the annual registration renewal deadline. Rather than using a single yearly renewal date, registrations will now be renewed based on the anniversary date of the original issuance.
The ordinance will take effect upon adoption and publication as required by law.
A full copy of the ordinance is available for inspection at the Starke County Planning and Building Department and the Starke County Auditor’s Office.
