The National Weather Service extended its Flood Warning last night for the Kankakee River at the Davis monitoring station, affecting La Porte, Starke and St. Joseph counties.
The latest warning at the time of this article is in effect late Sunday night through Thursday afternoon, with minor flooding forecast.
As of 10am Central Time on Sunday, September 20th, the river was at 7.3 feet. Flood stage is 10 feet. The National Weather Service expected the river to rise above flood stage shortly after midnight Sunday and crest at 11 feet by this evening. The river is forecast to fall below flood stage by Wednesday afternoon.
At 11 feet, flooding of secondary roads near the river begins.
The National Weather Service reminds motorists not to drive around barricades or attempt to drive through flooded areas.
