Community Pool Project Brought Back to Winamac Town Council for Consideration

Winamac Town Council members are being asked once again to consider a community pool after some new information has come to light that could potentially cut down on initial installation costs.

When Winamac Town Council members met Monday evening, Councilwoman Judy Heater initially took a seat in the audience to speak on behalf of the pool committee. The Community Foundation of Pulaski County plans to continue working with the Winamac Park Board on the town’s swimming pool rebuilding project. The foundation’s board of directors got an update last month from Park Board President Courtney Poor, along with town council and pool committee member Judy Heater.

Winamac Park Board to Discuss Pool Funds, Veteran’s Memorial Park Improvements

What to do with $135,000 raised for Winamac’s swimming pool rebuilding project is expected to be discussed during tonight’s Winamac Park Board meeting. That money was raised through private donations and fundraisers, and placed in a fund at the Community Foundation of Pulaski County. But now that the town has pulled its official support of the project, the park board has to decide what its next steps will be.

Winamac Pool Fundraiser to Take Place this Evening, as Confusion Remains About Project’s Future

The Winamac Pool Committee continues to raise money for the town’s swimming pool rebuilding project, but confusion remains about how exactly the project will proceed. A fish fry fundraiser is taking place this evening from 4:00 to 7:00 at the Winamac VFW. The need for private fundraising has increased in recent weeks, after the Town of Winamac pulled its official support.

Winamac Park Board Decides to Stop Pursuing Pool Project

Winamac’s swimming pool rebuilding effort appears to have come to an end. The town council narrowly decided Wednesday not to proceed with the project until the town has the money to support the ongoing maintenance of the pool. Without the town council’s financial support, the park board followed suit Thursday, voting to stop work on the project.

Winamac Town Council Discusses Future of Community Pool Project

The Winamac Town Council met for a special session last night to discuss a few matters, including the future of constructing a new community pool.

Funds that were previously expected from Pulaski County are not available due to a shortfall in local income tax revenues. An account that existed for the old pool was set aside for recreational purposes once the old pool was closed. In the past, that account typically contained around $40,000 but it had to be dipped into to help balance Winamac’s budget to make up for the difference that was not received from the county.

The town did not receive the DNR LWCF grant they applied for which also set the project back. For these reasons, certain council members were questioning the practicality of going forward with the proposed pool project. Continue reading

Winamac Park Board to Consider Funding Agreement for Pool Project

The Winamac Park Board will meet in special session this evening to consider an agreement that would allow the board to take control of the town’s swimming pool rebuilding project. A committee of volunteers has been raising money for the project over the past several months, with the donations going into a fund at the Community Foundation of Pulaski County. Residents to Receive Update on Winamac Pool Project

Much like the first meeting held in November, it will be a chance for residents to offer their ideas for the new pool.
