Wanted LaPorte County Man Arrested following Police Chase Sunday

A LaPorte County man wanted on suspicion of dealing in a controlled substance was taken into custody Sunday, but not before police say he tried to get away on a motorcycle and then checked into a Michigan City motel. LaPorte County sheriff’s deputies say they went to a home in the 3700 block of East County Road 100 South at about 6:15 p.m. to try to locate Tyler T. Lukac, 26.

Indiana State Police Hand Out Face Masks to Truck Drivers

Truck drivers continuing to make their deliveries during the COVID-19 pandemic were able to get some protective equipment, with some help from Indiana State Police. Master Trooper Jim Strong and Sgt. Dale Turner passed out 1,000 face masks Friday at the I-94 rest park in LaPorte County, with help from Darin Jones with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.

Starke County, North Judson-Wayne Township Libraries Planning to Resume Operations

Starke County’s public libraries will start gradually resuming operations Monday. Governor Eric Holcomb’s Back on Track Indiana plan allows libraries to open starting May 4, according to their own policies and CDC guidelines. Both the Starke County Public Library System and the North Judson-Wayne Township Public Library will keep their buildings closed to the public for now.

Four Injured in Crash on U.S. 421 in Pulaski County Monday

Four people were hurt Monday afternoon in a crash at U.S. 421 and Pulaski County Road 200 South. A Hyundai Elantra was reportedly heading west on 200 South, when it pulled into the path of a Ford Econoline E350 that was heading south. The driver of the Hyundai, Samuel D. Jones, 29, of Mapleton, Illinois, reportedly told police that he didn’t realize the intersection wasn’t a four-way stop.

Governor Unveils Five-Stage Reopening Plan, Stores Allowed to Reopen Monday

Governor Eric Holcomb announces his five-stage reopening plan Friday

Indiana’s stay-at-home order will gradually be lifted starting Monday. Stores currently restricted to curbside pickup will be able to open to the public at 50-percent capacity on May 4, with restaurants to follow a week later. But anyone age 65 or older should continue to stay home, if possible.
