Starke County will not help the operator of the Bass Lake Campground with the cost of electrical upgrades. After six months of discussion, the county park board voted Tuesday to deny a request to deduct the $7,800 cost from the operator’s rent payment. The project would have increased the electrical capacity in the back half of the campground, to accommodate newer RVs.

During a joint session with the county council Monday, the commissioners agreed to ask Rowland Design for a quote for final design work, since the company already did the preliminary plans.

A rededication ceremony and the installation of a decorative lighting feature have been proposed for 2023. A report of an armed robbery at Knox gas station Thursday led to three women being detained at the Starke County Justice Center. Knox City Police say they got a report of a “holdup alarm” at Next Door Foods at 1 North Heaton Street around 12:40 p.m. Dispatchers told officers that there was a female with a firearm.

A North Judson woman is dead, following a crash on State Road 39. The Starke County Sheriff’s Office says that just after 6:30 Saturday morning, it got a report of a Honda Civic submerged upside-down in a drainage ditch in the 1500 south block of the highway. When emergency responders arrived, they reportedly found Shari Lynn Zimmerman, 53, dead inside the car.
