A rise in vehicle break-ins is prompting Pulaski County Police to remind residents to lock their cars. Officers say they’ve had multiple reports of items being stolen from vehicles in the area between U.S. 35 and County Road 1100 West, north of State Road 14. The cars were reportedly unlocked and parked in front of the victims’ homes.

The Pulaski County Commissioners are adding their support to a proposed work release center. Sheriff Jeff Richwine told the commissioners last week that Rowland Design has come up with a plan that would house 30 people. The estimated cost is $450,000, but Richwine thought it could be done for less than that.

The town council is working on getting a home built on a piece of town-owned land at Lincoln and Pearl streets. But there are also several privately-owned lots that might benefit from some incentives that could lead them to consider home additions and new constructions, according to Council President Dave Kesvormas.

Incumbent Kay Chaffins is running for her first full term, but she faces a Democratic primary challenge from Monica Miller. Updating Pulaski County’s computers will be a much bigger project than initially thought.
Earlier this month, Auditor Laura Wheeler told the county commissioners that 11 to 15 computers were still using Windows 7, which is being discontinued. This week, she said that number is actually closer to 45, and she still hadn’t heard from all of the departments.
