State Budget, School Accountability Proposals Draw Concerns from Eastern Pulaski Superintendent

Some of the bills making their way through the Indiana General Assembly are drawing concerns from Eastern Pulaski School Superintendent Dan Foster.

During his legislative update to the school board Monday, Foster said the state’s proposed budget would increase what the school corporation gets for each student, but not enough to keep up with costs.

Winamac Park Board Prepares to Rebid Restroom Project, Following Funding Delays

The Winamac Park Board is almost ready to get construction bids for new restrooms in the Town Park, but town officials will have to work around some scheduling constraints. Last year, the park board was awarded a Land and Water Conservation Fund grant to help with the cost, but as of last week, the paperwork still hadn’t been finalized, according to Park Board Secretary Kim Burke.

Pulaski County Attorney Wants to Review Contract before Commissioners Approve Email Switch

A proposed switch in Pulaski County’s email system still needs more review before the county commissioners will approve it. Since January, IT Director Matt Voltz has been recommending using Golden Tech, to switch county employees over to the Office 365 email system. Voltz says it will make it easier for various departments to coordinate their schedules, which would be especially helpful for the county’s judicial system.

Pulaski County Council to Discontinue Salary Matrix Committee Due to Open Door Law Concerns

The Pulaski County Council appears to have disbanded its salary matrix committee, which council members say never officially existed in the first place. Last month, council members referred a series of salary-related requests to the committee for further consideration.

Starke County Park Board Chooses New President

The Starke County Park Board welcomed two new members Tuesday. Attorney Richard Ballard was appointed to the board by Starke Circuit Court Judge Kim Hall, following the resignation of Roger Chaffins. Starke County Highway Superintendent Rik Ritzler had been appointed by the county council back in January, replacing Debbie Mix. Ballard and Ritzler both took their seats on the park board for the first time Tuesday, during the board’s first official meeting since last September.

Pulaski County Council Decides to Hold Off on Staffing Increases while Awaiting Fiscal Plan

Pulaski County’s long-awaited fiscal plan is set to be unveiled next month, but in the meantime, several departments’ requests for additional help will remain on hold. Three department heads were scheduled to ask the county council for staffing increases Monday, but at the start of the meeting, Council Member Kathi Thompson said that fiscal planning consultant Jeffrey Peters has asked council members to hold off.

State to Provide Computer Equipment to Pulaski County in Preparation for Court Software Switch

Pulaski County is getting some new computer equipment from the state, as part of its switch in court software. Circuit Court Judge Mary Welker told the county commissioners last week that Superior Court Judge Crystal Brucker Kocher has been working hard on the transition to the Odyssey system, and Circuit Court will benefit, as well.
