The Pulaski County Commissioners have decided not to put more money into an ambulance that’s set to be replaced next year. EMS Director Bryan Corn told the commissioners Monday that the department’s oldest ambulance, a 2008 Ford which has had numerous problems over the years, is once again out of service.

The Knox Community School Corporation is looking to maximize its cash reserves. Superintendent Dr. William Reichhart told the school board Tuesday that the school corporation has a total of about $7 million in its various funds. That money is currently earning an interest rate of about 1.75 percent.

Pulaski County Courthouse Elevator to be Ready for Use by End of October
The Pulaski County Courthouse elevator will be ready for use by the end of the month. “The construction will be absolutely complete by the 15th and then two weeks for the inspection,” Maintenance Supervisor Jeff Johnston told the county commissioners Monday. That means that starting in November, the county council and commissioners meetings will be back in the courthouse.
Knox School Board Reviews Changes to School Funding Structure during Budget Hearing
Knox school officials are preparing for the upcoming change in the school funding structure. Starting January 1, each school corporation’s General Fund will be replaced by an Education Fund, while the Capital Projects, Transportation, and Bus Replacement Funds will be combined into an Operations Fund.

Joseph Reed has withdrawn his candidacy, according to Starke County Clerk Vicki Cooley. Roy McCray was appointed last week by the Republican Party chair to take Reed’s place on next month’s ballot.
Warm Weather Helping to Speed Up Fall Harvest
Warm weather is helping to push this year’s harvest season along, according to Purdue Extension Agriculture & Natural Resources Educator Phil Woolery. “Things are picking up pretty fast now,” he says. “We’ve had some kind of warm and dry weather that’s helped dry crops down, which has helped speed up harvest on corn and soybeans, helping things mature faster. We had some real warm weather that helped with crops growing faster, as well, so earlier than average harvest start time.”

Pulaski County Commissioners to Vote on Commercial Wind Turbine Ban Tonight

The Pulaski County Commissioners will decide tonight whether to ban commercial wind turbines. The updated wind turbine regulations head back to the commissioners tonight, after the county’s advisory plan commission agreed last week to some language adjustments the commissioners had recommended. Under the updated proposal, landowners would still be allowed to build noncommercial and micro wind energy convergence systems in certain areas.
