A storied horse troop from Culver Military Academy is once again taking part in a longstanding holiday tradition.
Culver Military Academy’s Friesian Mounted Color Guard will be riding in the McDonald’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in Chicago. A local teacher recently received a grant from the Northern Indiana Community Foundation to help fund an upcoming Indiana Bicentennial celebration. Donna Rowe teaches fourth grade at North Judson-San Pierre Elementary. That’s when students get their first formal exposure to Indiana history. The Starke County Council and Commissioners will discuss a new, federally-mandated overtime policy for county employees during their respective meetings tonight. The Fair Labor Standards Act takes effect Dec. 1. It requires overtime payments to salaried employees who make less than $47,500 a year and work more than 40 hours per week. Continue reading

More people are hitting the road over the Thanksgiving holiday than have traveled in nearly a decade. That’s according to AAA. They project 48.7 million Americans will travel 50 or more miles from home. That’s an increase of a million travelers from last year and the most since 2007. The Thanksgiving holiday travel period is defined as Wednesday, Nov. 23 to Sunday, Nov. 27. Continue reading
