An attempt by the Chesapeake and Indiana Railroad Company (CKIN) to force the town of North Judson to sell its rail line has been rejected by the Surface Transportation Board.
CKIN operated the short-line railroad under an arrangement with the town for 10 years. Their agreement also allowed the North Judson-based Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum to operate excursion trains on the line. Continue reading

A road at the south end of the Knox City Limits has a new name. Last summer the city used Community Crossings grant money to connect 150 South between Roosevelt Road and South Heaton Street. During a dedication ceremony yesterday, Mayor Dennis Estok told the crowd of veterans, family members and city officials the former county road needed a new name. Continue reading

A longtime North Judson farmer and community supporter is the grand marshal of the 2017 North Judson Mint Festival. Marshall Field has been married to his wife, Gloria, for 43 years and still lives in the house in which he was born. The Fields’ have five children and seven grandchildren. Continue reading
Knox officials are set to cut the ribbon for the city’s newest amenity today and are hoping it will get lots of use throughout the summer.
The performance stage in Wythogan Park will be dedicated at 2:30 p.m. The brief program will be followed by a free concert in the park sponsored by the city. Jim Pulse will start the entertainment at 3 p.m. and will play until 5 or 5:30. After that Half Track will take the stage and play until whenever. The performances coincide with the car show in the park, which will be followed by a cruise night. Continue reading

The North Judson Town Council has hired an appraiser for their railroad line. During a special-called Wednesday meeting members agreed to pay Alexandria, Va.-based G.W. Fauth & Associates an amount not to exceed $35,000 for the work. It will mark the first appraisal the town has had of the rail line since taking over ownership in 2004. Continue reading
