Amtrak Train Collides with Semi in Jasper County
Police investigated an accident between an Amtrak train and a semi in Jasper County Friday morning.
It happened on County Road 1200 West near the small town of Fair Oaks.
According to a published report, the semi failed to yield at the crossing and the Amtrak Train from Indianapolis slammed into the semi’s trailer splitting it into two pieces.
The semi was carrying methanol bottles which are highly flammable. Hazmat crews were called to the scene to clean up the spillage. No injuries were reported.
Two Illinois Residents Killed after a Vehicle Accident in Jasper County
The Indiana State Police responded to an early morning crash this morning on I-65 in Jasper County where two people died at the scene.
Preliminary investigation revealed, at approximately 5:33 a.m., Michael D Ward, 47 of Winnipeg, Manitoba, was driving a semi, going north bound, when he stated that another semi that was up ahead in the left lane changed lanes quickly to go into the right lane in front of him. That semi immediately swerved to go back to the left lane again. Ward’s semi then hit the vehicle in the right lane.
Both the driver, John Miroballi, 68 of Wood Dale, Illinois and front seat passenger, Jeannie Miroballi, 46, of Wood Dale, Illinois were pronounced dead at the scene by the Jasper County Coroner of massive blunt force trauma.

The annual Starke United Auction will be held today at the CenturyLink warehouse. The auction will be broadcast on both WKVI AM and FM and kicks off at 10:00 a.m. CT. Gerald Broude Found Guilty on Four Counts of Child Molestation
A verdict has been declared in the Gerald Broude trial in Starke Circuit Court.
A jury of seven men and five women deliberated for 30 minutes and found Broude guilty on all four counts of child molestation. Broude’s bond was revoked and Broude was ordered to be held without bond until his sentencing hearing on Tuesday, December 28th, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. CT in Starke Circuit Court.

Three Starke County Community Corrections Employees Honored at Annual Conference
Three Starke County government employees were recently honored at the Indiana Association of Community Corrections Annual Conference for outstanding achievement in community corrections for 2010. The Conference was held in Indianapolis.
Kimberly Kennedy was selected as the Program Supervisor for 2010 for her exceptional work in overseeing the Starke County Community Corrections Community Service Component and Robert Shawn Mattraw was selected as the Electronic Monitoring Home Detention Employee of the Year. Director, Robert Hinojosa, also received recognition for his 25 years of service to the Association.
Love Inc. Helps Meet the Needs of Starke County
The Love Inc. organization is fulfilling many needs of people experiencing crisis situations in Starke County. The Executive Director of Love Inc. is Wendy Medborn. She’s been “on the job” since August and is already realizing what a big job it is.

Knox City Police Department Statistics for November
Knox City Police Chief, Clint Norem, has released the Department’s statistics for the month of November.
The Department had 443 calls, 11 accident reports and 44 incident reports. There were 5 Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated Reports, 18 people arrested on 21 traffic charges, 36 people arrested on 58 criminal charges, 8 juveniles arrested on various charges and 4 people cited for 4 ordinance violations. 5 battery arrests and 4 warrant arrests were made and 17 drug charges were filed.
Newly Elected Starke County Officials to go through Orientation
Orientation for newly elected officials in Starke County will be held Tuesday, December 21st, from 9:00-11:00 a.m. A tentative agenda will be emailed to all existing department heads who are invited to attend.
New Council members are David Pearman, Mitchell Semans, Anthony Radkiewicz, and Marvin McLaughlin. They will be going into office after January 1st. Also invited to attend is newly elected Prosecutor, Nicholas Bourff.
Culver Community School Students Helping to Make Wishes Come True
Students in the Culver Community School District are motivated this year to help make a wish come true for two families of terminally ill students. This is the second year the students have been involved in a Make-A-Wish effort. Last year they raised $3,667 after pledging $150 to make a New Carlisle boy’s wish come true.
