The Eastern Pulaski School Corporation may soon offer school bus driver training. Superintendent Dan Foster told the school board Monday evening finding enough drivers to cover routes is an ongoing struggle. He’s envisioning a program in which the corporation would help drivers acquire the necessary training, and in exchange the drivers would agree to work for the corporation for a minimum amount of time. Recovering Addict Speaks to Starke County Jail Addictions Education Program Inmates
A recovering heroin addict shared a sobering message with 16 Starke County Jail inmates who are part of the in-house drug treatment program. Herb Stepherson says he always felt like an alien in his own skin and started smoking cigarettes when he was 15 in order to fit in with his peers. It worked, and soon afterward Stepherson discovered alcohol as another means of escape. He went from binge drinking with high school friends on the weekends to skipping school and sneaking out of the house after his parents cracked down on him. Continue reading

Starke County EMS is working to expand electronic billing in an effort to improve the efficiency of the service. Office manager Marylynn Richie is now able to electronically bill both traditional and railroad Medicare, BlueCross and Medicaid. One of the greatest moments in the history of sports still has implications today, right here in Starke County. That’s the message former WSBT-TV sports anchor Charlie Adams shared during the National Day of Prayer breakfast in Knox yesterday. He’s studied the “Miracle on Ice” at length. It took place in Lake Placid, New York during the 1980 Winter Olympics.
