Winamac to Explore Cumulative Capital Development Fund Reestablishment

Winamac property owners may see a bit of a tax increase next year. Clerk-Treasurer Melanie Berger told the town council Monday that the town’s cumulative capital development fund rate, which decreases over time, is now down to 4.23 cents. She said the town could bring in about another $5,300 by reestablishing it at the full five cent rate.

Knox School Board Gets Update on Donations, Grants

A Knox High School program that pairs special needs students with buddies in the general ed population has gotten a funding boost for one of its activities. The school board Tuesday accepted a $700 Target Field Trip Grant. That will help with the cost of tickets for the Best Buddies program’s upcoming trip to see a live production of The Lion King in South Bend.

North Judson Town Council Discusses Potential Change to Election Cycle

A bill for almost $11,000 has prompted the North Judson Town Council to consider changing the town’s election cycle. The bill for last November’s town election was eventually forgiven by the Starke County Council, but during Monday’s town council meeting, Council Member Josh Brown said the county might not be willing to do that in the future.

Old Winamac Town Park Restrooms to Be Demolished Next Week

After years of planning, the old Winamac Town Park restrooms will be torn down next week. “Monday or Tuesday, they’ll get the old restrooms down,” town manager and park board member Brad Zellers told the rest of the park board Thursday. “During that timeframe, I’m going to have a couple town employees at the gate. We’re going to close the park off while the contractor’s doing that, so there aren’t people going in, liability things.”
